Message from the Board – Joe Watts, President

Thanksgiving in the clubhouse was a wonderful event attended by about 50 members.  A special "Thank You" to the social committee, Sue, Walt & Erin! The committee and volunteers once again exceeded all expectations!

An elderly Chinese woman had two large pots, each hung on the ends of a pole which she carried across her neck.

One of the pots had a crack in it while the other pot was perfect and always delivered a full portion of water.

At the end of the long walks from the stream to the house, the cracked pot arrived only half full.

For a full two years this went on daily, with the woman bringing home only one and a half pots of water.

Of course, the perfect pot was proud of its accomplishments.

But the poor cracked pot was ashamed of its own imperfection, and miserable that it could only do half of what it had been made to do.

After two years of what it perceived to be bitter failure, it spoke to the woman one day by the stream.

'I am ashamed of myself, because this crack in my side causes water to leak out all the way back to your house.'

The old woman smiled, 'Did you notice that there are flowers on your side of the path, but not on the other pot's side?'

'That's because I have always known about your flaw, so I planted flower seeds on your side of the path, and every day while we walk back, you water them.'

For two years I have been able to pick these beautiful flowers to decorate the table.

Without you being just the way you are, there would not be this beauty to grace the house.

Each of us has our own unique flaw. But it's the cracks and flaws we each have that make our lives together so very interesting and rewarding.

You've just got to take each person for what they are and look for the good in them.

SO, to all of my cracked pot friends, have a great day and remember to smell the flowers on your side of the path!

ACC Corner – Bill Rose, ACC Chairperson

In getting ready for winter, it is necessary to clean up your yard by raking, picking up debris, final trimming of limbs that are hanging, and sweeping roofs of debris. Debris that is left over the winter will do more harm than good. Be mindful that if you are going to haul away debris using a trailer, it must not be on site overnight. If you need to have your trailer overnight, please notify POA office prior to it being present.

When requesting the tree removal form which is a two-page form, return both pages to the POA office. Do not submit the Town form to the Town Office; we will do that for you.

We have received request by two additional residents to be Volunteers to the ACC. We will be interviewing for additional volunteers. At present we have three that have committed, but we are still in need of at least three more volunteers. Again, it will be about 2-3 hours on a by-weekly basis.

Garden Club Mary Conover

Our November 10 meeting featured Diane Federes, a Master Gardener who has owned her own flower shop. Diane demonstrated how to put together six (6) different arrangements with a holiday flair, as well as raffling off the completed pieces. Everyone had a wonderful time and enjoyed learning how to prepare our own holiday flower arrangements.

Diane is also assisting our Community Beautification Committee as they decorate the bookshelves at the SW Brunswick Branch Library. A well-attended workshop was held Tuesday, November 16, to prepare the pinecones and swags. Be sure to swing by and see the beautiful decorations!

Saturday, November 20, was our Annual Soup & Bake Sale, held at the POA clubhouse. This is a fundraiser to support our scholarship drive and community beautification projects, and always well attended by the community. It was a huge success, thanks to the many volunteers, as well as those who participated and enjoyed the soup and baked goodies.

In lieu of a December meeting, we are having our annual Christmas luncheon on December 8 for Garden Club members. Always a fun time!

The Carolina Shores Garden Club is open to anyone who has a desire to enhance their gardening skills and knowledge, or simply enjoys and appreciates the beauty of nature. It's also a great way to meet new friends and socialize.

Dues are $10/year. Please contact Joanne Bendy at (910)575-0071 if you have any questions.

Book Discussion Group – Susie Riggs

stack of books isolated on white backgroundThe Book Discussion Group met on Friday, November 19, to discuss our reading selection for this month, What's Mine and Yours. This novel, written by Naima Coster, has been described as “an intergenerational saga of two North Carolina families inextricably connected by trauma and love.” Most everyone felt that the various themes addressed in the book made it a good choice for a book group discussion.

The next meeting will be held on Friday, December 17, at 10:00 a.m. in the POA clubhouse. Our book for the month will be The Orphan Collector by Ellen Marie Wiseman. All interested Carolina Shores residents are invited to attend!

Care Team – Flo Pflaster

http://thumbs.dreamstime.com/z/customer-care-team-d-isolated-43443409.jpgWe have many volunteers on the Care Team, ready and willing to help our neighbors with temporary assistance. I will do whatever I can to find someone to help - all you have to do is call or email me!

For those of you who have volunteered to help others by being on the Care Team, here is how you make sure you are getting notifications when I post a request:

How to control all email notification settings (including groups)

1.      Log in to nextdoor.com and click your profile picture in the top right corner.

2.      Select Settings from the drop-down.

3.      Select Notifications from the left menu:

4.      Next to Email Notificationsselect Edit

5.      If you set Updates from your local area to None then you will not receive email notifications from your groups.

6.      If you set it to Only top posts or All you will get an email for every new group post. (choose this one)

Note: Adjusting these settings will affect all your email notifications, not just for groups.

If you want to be a part of this team or if you no longer want to be on the list, please let me know. There are not many calls for help, but people are so very grateful for the assistance they do get! It really does not take much to volunteer. Help with a small chore at home, an occasional ride, a temporary need for dog walking, etc. is usually what is needed. So, neighbors, continue to let me know if you need help and I will do my best to find someone.

Thank you,
